The Core Storyline

Chaali Din (translating to "Forty Days") is a deeply soulful, poetic, and emotionally resonant Indian Punjabi drama film that has captivated audiences with its profound spiritual depth. Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Tarnvir Singh Jagpal (Rabb Da Radio, Daana Paani) and masterfully adapted from the philosophical novel by Dr. Gurpreet Singh Dhugga, this 2-hour-8-minute cinematic journey stands out as a rare, thought-provoking masterpiece in modern Punjabi cinema. Anchored by incredibly moving performances from an ensemble cast featuring industry veteran Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nirmal Rishi, Sukhan Waraich, and Drishhty Talwar, the film delivers a beautiful, slow-burn exploration of faith, inner healing, and human connection.

The narrative focuses on Kesar (Sukhan Waraich), an innocent young boy standing on the precipice of adolescence, navigating a tender and highly vulnerable phase of life marked by emotional awakening and personal confusion. His ordinary world takes an extraordinary turn when his path intertwines with a mystical, wandering saint-like figure known as a Fakir (played with mesmerizing screen presence by Gurpreet Ghuggi). Guided by the Fakir’s gentle wisdom and deep spiritual insights, Kesar embarks on a profound 40-day pilgrimage of inner healing and self-discovery across a beautifully captured rural landscape. Along this transformative journey, a quiet, purely platonic love story unfolds between Kesar and a young girl (Drishhty Talwar)—a bond heavily shaped and tested by the haunting, universal theme of separation.
