The Core Storyline

Main Vaapas Aaunga is a sweeping, deeply emotional, and poetic period romantic drama directed by maestro Imtiaz Ali. Marking another brilliant collaboration between the filmmaker and Diljit Dosanjh following Amar Singh Chamkila, the film serves as a bittersweet, heart-wrenching examination of displacement, unfinished promises, and the permanent scars left behind by the 1947 Partition.

The narrative jumps across two parallel eras, opening in the modern day with Ishar Singh Grewal aka Keenu (Naseeruddin Shah), an elderly man on his deathbed battling severe dementia and physical paralysis following a stroke. Completely detached from his present reality, Keenu is psychologically trapped in the past, desperately repeating a singular, frantic vow: that he must return to his ancestral home in Sargodha (now in Pakistan). This brings in his London-bound grandson, Nirvair (Diljit Dosanjh), a drifting tech professional and struggling stand-up comedian who steps in as his grandfather's caregiver.
