The Core Storyline
A deeply unsettling, hyper-atmospheric, and mind-bending descent into liminal space nightmare terrain takes center stage in Backrooms. Directed and co-scored by 20-year-old YouTube sensation Kane Parsons in his monumental feature-length directorial debut, and written by Will Soodik, this highly anticipated psychological horror film is a joint production between A24, Chernin Entertainment, Atomic Monster, and 21 Laps Entertainment. Masterfully scaling Parsons’ viral internet creepypasta web series into a full-fledged cinematic reality, the film arrives on digital platforms fresh from its record-breaking, highest-grossing A24 theatrical run, complete with a high-fidelity Hindi dubbed multi-audio track that perfectly captures every bone-chilling, echo-filled soundscape.
Trading typical jumpscares for a slow-burning, architectural claustrophobia, the narrative centers on Clark (played with incredible internal torment and raw vulnerability by Chiwetel Ejiofor), a failing architect struggling with severe alcoholism and a crumbling marriage. His life takes a reality-shattering turn when a strange, glitching doorway suddenly appears in the basement of a struggling furniture showroom. Stepping through, he is instantly noclipped out of reality and trapped within the Backrooms—an endless, non-Euclidean network of interconnected rooms defined by damp carpet, peeling yellow wallpaper, and the continuous, buzzing hum of fluorescent lights. This "architectural hell" mirrors a flawed digital 3D modeling sandbox, featuring intentional rendering errors, misaligned floors, and objects clipping through solid walls to create a harrowing sense of unreality.
